The unplanned expatriate blogger behind Mild Stone Craft

Hi, I am Mateus
I work as a project manager, am a parent, and live abroad in Lisboa, Portugal.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Portugal wasn't in the long-term plan. Similar to many expat moves, it started as a work opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, heightened expectations. Daily tasks seemed more complex than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
Culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning defined that phase. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit our needs, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Built Mild Stone Craft
The bulk of information online was either corporate relocation tips or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This website aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
- Updated whenever something meaningful changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- a sponsored review platform
- a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Portugal goes on, and the learning journey continues. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Lisboa or anywhere in Portugal, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Mateus
